There’s a new Jane Austen adaptation in town, and it’s not another iteration of Pride & Prejudice(!). Her novella Lady Susan has been transformed into Love & Friendship, the kind of period comedy that can charm not only die-hard JA fans, but also their friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, moms, dads, and well, everyone, really. The story centers around the cunning Lady Susan, a widow who’s out to get herself and her teenage daughter a man by any means necessary. She’s beautiful, she’s brilliant, and I can’t keep my eyes off her.
Which is in part due to the costuming for the film. I’m fully enamored with the dramatic frills and finery of these 1790s gowns, and it’s really killing me that the movie isn’t coming to Chicago for another week. At least I can admire a few glimpses until then. Here are a few of the costumes I can’t wait to see up close!
