So…I’ve worn this outfit for the blog already. Sure, I have on different shoes and a headband instead of a hat, but it’s really the same. And that’s okay.
I’ve got to confess that lately, I’ve been getting really caught up in buying buying buying new clothes, and it’s a habit I want to break for a couple of reasons. First off, I’m not made of money. No matter how much I pretend that’s true, I really can’t afford my current shopping habits. Second, I tend to shop for lots of cheapy stuff because I feel like I’m getting more bang for my buck.
The thing is, if something’s cheap, chances are it has a dubious origin. And after reading so much about ethical shopping on Alive as Always and The Robot That Had a Heart, I think it’s high time I shift my focus toward more ethical fashion. Shopping is a choice, and I’d rather spend my money on brands that pay their workers living wages and don’t put an unnecessary strain on the environment. Or I can buy nothing at all, and keep reusing the clothes I’ve already got, mixing them in new ways like I have here.
I still have a lot to learn about ethical fashion, and I don’t think I’m going to be perfect, but my goals are to purchase clothing only from ethical brands, to thrift and hunt down vintage clothes whenever possible, and to reuse what I’ve already got until it falls apart or gets donated. I know I’m only one person, but I think it’s a worthwhile cause as a style blogger, and I hope it leads to a difference.
