Outfit: Devinne, Kelsey, and Frank

DSC_0184.jpg

This weekend was so lovely that it was impossible not to take advantage of the nice weather for some photos around town!  I met up with one of my old college friends/fellow Quidditch player, Kelsey, and we started out the afternoon with a delectable waffle brunch before heading over to a gorgeous neighborhood filled with Frank Lloyd Wright architecture and decadently ornate Victorian mansions.

I don’t think I could ever get tired of looking and looking at these beautiful homes.  My dream has always been to one day live in a 19th century mansion–like one of these.  I don’t think that’ll ever happen, but a girl can dream!

Of course, what photo session would be complete without a few outfit pics?  I handed over my camera for the first time and Kelsey took some wonderful pictures in front of the Moore-Dugal house.  Can you believe someone actually lives in there?

Happily, Kelsey let me take a few of her outfit as well.  I really love her coat, especially with that tote!  Hopefully we’ll get to collaborate again soon–this was such a fun experience for me.

Outfit: Melting in the Dark

After weeks and weeks of terribly cold weather, Chicago finally had a little relief this weekend.  I woke up on Saturday morning to the warmest temperature so far this year, and instead of dreading my weekly shoot, I couldn’t wait to be outside in the sunshine.

It was truly a joy to take these pictures.  The sun was so warm that I didn’t mind slipping off my wool coat and frolicking through the gardens of a nearby mansion.  It was such a different feeling from the last time I wore this dress, which was at my company’s holiday party at the beginning of December.  Back then, I had to wear thick tights and carry around an emergency cardigan, but this time, I think would have even been perfectly happy going barefoot!

I do want to point out that this is one of those outfits that I wore specifically for a shoot.  A lot of the time, the clothes I wear to a shoot are ones that I’ll be wearing for the rest of the day.  There are a few reasons I do that, chief among them being my horrible laziness, but with the weather behaving the way it was this weekend, I just had to put on something that captured that springtime feeling.

I ended up wearing two other outfits that day, actually!  Normally, I pick out something in the morning and wear it all day long, but Saturday was full of events that called for lots of costume changes.  Shortly after taking these pictures, I buttoned myself into one of my favorite Emily & Fin dresses for my aunt’s birthday party, and later in the evening, I put on a little hot pink number to go dancing with my boyfriend.  The sole constant was my hairstyle.  In fact, the curls held up so well the next day that I was able to do a little Brigitte Bardot ‘do!  Maybe I’ll do a tutorial on that soon.

What about you–do you often change your clothes throughout the day, or do you wear one outfit from day to night?

On My Wishlist: Book Of Deer SS16

BoD cover.JPGNow that I’m a grownup, nothing gives me more satisfaction than choosing my own meals.  Each night, it’s up to me and me alone to select something that’s tasty and satisfying.  That’s why a nice, big, overflowing bowl of Lucky Charms is my go-to dinner.  Those adorable shamrocks, balloons, and hearts make me happy–not to mention all that sweet, sweet sugar.  There’s nothing I look forward to more, not even ice cream or bagels smothered in Nutella.

So when Book of Deer unveiled their Lucky Charms-inspired Spring/Summer 2016 collection, you can imagine the frenzy I went into.  The line is everything I love and more–not only are all kinds of charms and talismans sprinkled on each piece, but the cuts are classic and easy to mix in with the rest of my wardrobe.  Here are a few of the items I’m craving:

BoD 1.JPG

Marshmallow Dress, $110

This print is killing me!  All my favorite Lucky Charms marshmallows are sprinkled over this delightfully retro dress.  That ruffled neckline and the halter straps make it even sweeter.

BoD 2.JPG

Rainbow Dress, $105

Fit-and-flares top the list of my favorite dress cuts, and when you make it in a soft chambray and scatter some adorable charms around the skirt, you’ve got something that’s truly perfect.

BoD 3.JPG

Magpie Skirt, $65

I can’t express how much I love those two magpies perched atop each pocket!  The more I look at this skirt, the more it appeals to me.  I can think of plenty of tops that would look so good against that green-and-white print…

If you’d like to see more from the Lucky Charms collection, you can check out the dreamy look book right here.  Let me know in the comments which pieces you like best!

Meet Mox, My Incredible Dog

DSC_0104.jpg

It’s been a while since I’ve dedicated a post to my best canine friend, and since there are a few of you who don’t know her backstory, I wanted to tell you a little about Moxie today.  After all, she’s the namesake of my blog!

DSC_0053DSC_0012A couple of years ago, I had just moved out of my parents’ house, and I was getting pretty lonely without a dog.  I had grown up with one always at my side, so it felt strange not to have a fuzzy friend around.  All too often, I found myself browsing through dog adoption sites, and by the summer of 2014, I was ready to bring one home.DSC_0141DSC_0094DSC_0111

I was looking for a boy dog, one that was young but no longer a puppy, and not too big.  Instead, I ended up with a wiggly girl puppy with huge paws that foretold her heftier adult size.  The night I took her home from the shelter, I was both overjoyed and panicked–how would I ever raise a puppy?  The two dogs I grew up with had been at least a year old when they came to live with us, so I was clueless.

It wasn’t easy, that’s for sure.  Going through Moxie’s teething phase was painful (literally) for both of us, and I remember coming home on many occasions to find that she had chewed something or other–the cabinets, the table, even the floor.  Eventually, though, she grew out of most of her bad habits, and now we’re on a pretty even keel.

DSC_0137These days, Moxie is truly my best friend.  The highlight of my day is coming home and watching her tail wag furiously as I walk through the door.  We share my bed–well, I’m not sure I would call her sprawling all the way across the mattress “sharing.”  I take her with me whenever I can–to run errands, to go on hikes, but especially to her favorite place, my parents’ house.

Getting to know her has been so much fun.  Now that she’s nearly two years old, she’s developed some strong preferences.  Likes: peanut butter, the snow, my parents’ dog Zak, my bathtub, giving kisses.  Dislikes: trucks and the neighbor dog.

I can’t wait to see what the years ahead have in store for us.  My dream has always been to adopt a brother or sister for her–maybe one day I’ll be writing a post about that dog!

Do you have any pets?  What do you love best about them?

On My Wishlist: ModCloth’s Spring Collection

MC Wishlist Cover

If I were to say I’m a ModCloth fan, that would be a terrible understatement.  I buy so much stuff from that website that most days, my outfits have at least one ModCloth piece.  It probably doesn’t help that I take some time every weekend to add to my wishlist.  Their spring collection just dropped, so I thought I’d show you a few of the things I’m dreaming of right now!

Lately, I’ve been falling madly in love with mint and coral tones, fun prints, and full skirts, so it’s no surprise that all these elements made it into my list.  Spring, can you hurry it up a little?!

MC Wishlist 5

Alfresco in Avignon Dress, $119.99

I’d love to wear something like this while I’m out and about in the city during the warmer months.  The colors and that crazy pattern are screaming, “Take me to the Shedd!”  I’d love to pair it with some crazy colored platform sandals.

MC Wishlist 11

Garden Gallery Skirt, $49.99

Like a pastel picnic blanket, this skirt is giving off some seriously balmy weather vibes.  I’d probably shorten this a bit and wear it with my gray ankle-strap flats and a floaty top.

MC Wishlist 6

Cafe Au Soleil Top, $39.99

This is the kind of top I’d like to get away with at work.  I bet I could if I wore it with a bright yellow cardi and my favorite jeans.

MC Wishlist 8

Mine All Design Dress, $119.99

I’m going to Florida with my boyfriend this spring, and this dress seems perfectly suited to the occasion!  I’m picturing us on the beach right now, with a giant sunhat perched on my head, of course!

MC Wishlist 10

Style Study Skirt, $64.99

I’d been getting away from novelty prints and the like during the winter, but now that spring is coming back, I’m so drawn to pieces like this!  This is one of those skirts that I wish came in petite sizes, because I know it’ll come past my knees and make heels a necessity, when really I would love to wear bright red flats with it!

Are you a ModCloth fan as well?  What are some of your favorite spring pieces?

(And in case you’re wondering, no, there are no affiliate links in this post, and I’m certainly not popular enough to be sponsored by ModCloth.  I just really love their clothes!)
