Outfit: Somebody to Lean On

DSC_0649.jpg

Something a lot of people ask me is how I deal with taking outdoor pictures in the winter, especially without a coat.

DSC_0622DSC_0655DSC_0661.jpgDSC_0667.jpgFirst, let me explain the lack of outerwear: my main winter jacket is this huge, puffy, gray behemoth that covers me up from my chin to my knees.  It’s an absolute essential for Chicago winters, but I’m none too certain it would add much to the Mox & Socks aesthetic.  I’ve been doing a lot of thrifting lately, though, so I should have some cute wraps to wear during shoots in the near future.

Second, there is something about these shoots that makes me forget I’m all that cold in the first place.  Maybe it’s because I’m a winter baby, maybe it’s because I prepare myself with ANTM-style pep talks, but I think it’s something else.  Whenever I take pictures, I melt away into the work.  It’s rare for me to carry worries, aches and pains, sickness, or, in this case, a chill, into a shoot.

I’m guessing I’m not the only one who gets into the zone like this when it’s picture time.  How do you guys feel when you’re doing an outfit shoot?

  1. Oh my goodness! These photos are stunning! And I’m a bit jealous you have snow. Haha. I completely understand what you mean about being in the zone. You get so into taking the photos (especially if the look this cool with the snow). However, I did just take my first set of outfit photos for the year in below freezing temps…and that did catch me a bit off guard. Haha. But I’m ready for whatever Mother Nature has next!

  2. People have asked me that too since it can get really cold in NY and I feel like it’s all about mentally preparing yourself haha! Also, I let my car run nearby so it’s warm inside, so that I can jump back in if i need to and use some of the leftover warmth! 🙂

  3. I’d agree with that! I absolutely hate the cold, but it doesn’t bother me as much when I’m taking outfit photos, even though they can mean half an hour of standing in freezing winds during the winter! I think it’s possible for the brain to shut that side of things down when you’re concentrating and working towards something… but I am the first to wear 900 layers on any other day!
