Outfit: Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

It seems like every time I go to the Enchanted Forest, it’s about to rain and I’m stressed and I hate everything, but as soon as I start getting into the photography, all of that changes and becomes something wonderful.  I suppose it’s the magic of the place.

On the day I took these pictures, I snapped a few outside the garden gate, looked at the previews, and was thoroughly disappointed for a stupid reason: I didn’t like the way my legs looked in these pants.  I almost cut everything short and went home, but I put a lot of thought into this outfit and went to the trouble of driving out here, so I stuck with it.  I’m really glad I did.  These are some of my favorite pictures to date!  I had a lot of inspiration from Klara of The Robot That Had a Heart–her pictures are often done in this kind of setting, and it’s amazing what she does with the lighting and composition.

As for the outfit itself, it’s a little brighter and sunnier than usual, and that’s why I like it so much.  One of the things I really want to work on is trying new outfits and combinations.  I tend to wear a lot of muted colors, but I’d like to start incorporating a little more pizzazz into what I wear on a regular basis.   Likewise, I wear tons of dresses because they’re easier for me to style than separates, but I plan on changing that up as I continue with the blog.  After all, the whole point of Mox and Socks is for me to continuously create new experiences for myself!

By the way, I bought this top as part of the new ModCloth line.  While I’m excited that the company has its own collection now, I was kind of disappointed with the sizing.  I was really hoping for petite- and tall-friendly items, but that isn’t the case.  You can’t see it, but this top goes all the way down to my butt!  Also, I think it’s great that the clothes go up to 4X, but I wish they also went down to XXS.  I personally am not that small, but I’ve read tons of reviews on the site and know that there are plenty of women who would benefit from smaller sizes.  Hopefully in the future, they’ll expand the sizing to fit all women!

  1. Ahhh you look so awesome!!! I love that top – it’s one of my favourites from ModCloths own! You look really lovely in that bright colour – you definitely should incorporate more colour, it suits you so much with your lovely skin tone and hair colour.
These photos are gorgeous. Well done with them!

    1. Thank you! I saw that bright yellow and just had to have it! I’m thinking about continuing this colorful kick by doing a shoot with a pair of equally sunshine-y shorts that I just bought 🙂

    1. That’s awesome that you have the same top! You should do a post with it 🙂 As far as the size thing goes, it’s funny because the other day at lunch, my 6-foot-tall friend and I were both browsing ModCloth, and there were so many dresses where she said it would be too short on her and I thought it would be too long! I wonder if ModCloth (and other similar companies) would ever incorporate something like eShakti and have customizable clothing?

      1. I’m taking pictures wearing it tomorrow 🙂 I think more companies should think about doing customized clothes. Even people who are technically the same size aren’t shaped the same way. I’ve bought dresses that were simultaneously both too big and too small, and sizing up or down wouldn’t have helped.

  2. These photos rock! I love how you played with the composition in them! And I adore this yellow top – I’ve had my eye on this and a jacket from their new line…ModCloth is never good for the bank account. Haha. I also agree with you on their sizing…it seems strange they wouldn’t have sizes to fit petite ladies too.

    1. Thank you! I had so much fun taking them and playing around in the dirt! I agree about ModCloth and the bank account…I actually started a little ModCloth fund for the end of each month because I was buying so many things on impulse! As far as the sizing goes, I was talking to Becca from Super Style Me, and we think that perhaps one day ModCloth might go the route of eShakti and have customizable clothing. I’d be a big fan of that!

  3. I really love the composition of the very last photo, and how you’re kind of nestled into the corner there. Also love the blouse!

I'd love to hear from you!
